Our History
founded in 2015
Winsome View Farm in Stokes County, North Carolina, was founded in 2015 and offers overnight stays and special events. Set in the middle of the scenic Sauratown Mountains and Cooks Wall Mountain, Winsome View Farm offers the perfect backdrop with unbeatable views with two state parks within 15 minutes.
It began with two old tobacco barns on 40 acres of heavily used farmland and the desire to bring family together in NC. In 2015, our focus was on grading, roads, drainage, fencing, well, water lines, improving the soil, sowing new pastures, septic and establishing the home site. The horses were moved from GA and the family migration began.
In 2016, we tried to preserve history by restoring a tobacco barn for use as a tack/feed room. The damage from the years was extensive and we started anew from the ground up with a two-story wood barn. We also reaped the rewards of pasture management and weather which facilitated the need for a hay and equipment barn. The migration from GA was completed with the final family members joining us! Yay! The evolution continued with years of continued work, mainly improvements to existing structures, land management, establishing trails and designing future additions.
In 2019, the arena and the second story deck on the main barn was installed. My vision for the farm shifted from a family place to sharing the beauty of the farm with others by boarding horses, hosting children’s birthday parties, group meetings, photo shoots and special events. The potential for the main barn to be more than a tack room was pulling at my core. So…we prepped the site for the stable and new tack room.
Although 2020 brought challenges and uncertainty, we pressed on and kept our obligations to our local contractors who had several jobs cancelled. The stable was completed ahead of schedule and our first boarder joined us in August with two more to follow before the end of the year. The beautiful rock walls, concrete, and landscaping were installed at the main barn in addition to many internal improvements. With events on hold, the idea for overnight stays was born and the Barn Loft at Winsome View Farm took shape. It quickly became a favorite spot for out-of-state relatives to work remotely and recharge from the chaos.
2021 was a year of reflection, adjustment and reward. Our lesson program took flight and the students participated in virtual horse shows and attended several in person. The Barn Loft was listed on VRBo in the Fall as a trial. I really enjoyed meeting our guests, seeing them enjoy the beauty of the farm, and helping them tap in to what the area has to offer.
By the end of 2023, job changes and new responsibilities left little time for our horse program. Many of our boarders found their own farms and we shifted our focus from horses to providing awesome stays for our guests. As we venture into 2024, our original goal of special events at the farm is taking root. Stayed tuned for updates!
As a local farmer once told me, the words ‘farm’ and ‘done’ do not belong in the same sentence.
We look forward to meeting you.
